Today we brainstormed for our treatment and got inspiration from the film cocktail and thought about featuring a similar type of scene for our main character in our own trailer

Ideas
Today in class we started talking about ideas concerning our story-line for our trailer. the suggestions we thought of were of a femme fetal type character which we based of of the characters in spring breakers and blue jasmine.
Sadeff thought of the idea of an arranged marriage based on the book dishonor however we both agreed on looking more into femme fetal type characters, and then basing our story-line off of that.

we looked on a website that had femme fetal type characters in them and the film that features a femme fetal in it that was a drama was Cruel Intentions
however mainly thriller type films came up so we looked up films that feature powerful female characters and we though that we could have similar issues as the films what a girl wants and Mona Lisa Smile
The Great Gatsby - Product Research
Mise-en-scene
- Use of costumes gives us an insight on what genre the movie is.
- The use of quick shots also increases the pace of the trailer.
Sound
- Fast music, increases the pace of the trailer and gives us an insight on the pace of the movie itself.
- Different types of songs for each part of the trailer emphasising the importance of each scene.
- Important dialogues used in the trailer, giving the audience a hint of how each character is. Also outlines who is the protagonist and the antagonist.
Editing
- Quick transitions between shots.
- Informing the audience the release date, cast crew, institution, also an au toire. Example from the trailer is 'Romeo and Juliet'
The official poster of The Great Gatsby shows the iconic characters of the movie. Just from looking at the poster you can tell that Leonardo DiCaprio is the main protagonist as he is in the middle and he is looking straight at the viewers.
Even though the characters are descending behind him, they are still equally placed on his platform, therefore signifies that their roles in the film are equally important but DiCaprio is always the centre of attention.
In this particular poster Carey Mulligan is shown right at the bottom of the poster, this could imply that she is also important, also the fact that she may be different because she isnt with anyone else in the poster. She is placed alone and also she isn't looking directly at the viewers, this could suggest she has a secret side to her or she may be the turning point in the movie.

Blue Jasmine
Promotional Package : Blue Jasmine
Poster
The Use of Colours
The poster is very simplistic, the colour scheme is dominated with a lot of blue, consisting of various different shades of light blue, with streaks of red and yellow.
The empty spaces being more dominant In the poster imply a curiosity and lead to the audience asking questions. the soft blues suggests fantasy and dreams. It can also portray the main character as being a bit delusional.
The close up of the side of Cate Blanchett suggests that the whole film will be revolving around her, the fact that we can only see a side of her face suggests that she is hiding something, maybe there is pain behind the soft smile that we see in this image. The fact that her body is positioned facing towards the bridge in the distance could suggest her search to overcome a problem.
The genre of this film is comedy/drama, however, neither of those genres are portrayed via this poster, idea of the bridge and the female in the poster being troubled could imply some drama, however, that conclusion can only be drawn from looking at the poster in depth..
The poster consists of the main image, the title, the certificate, institution, main actor, certificate and billing, therefore it follows the conventional film poster rules.
however, one thing this poster lacks is a tagline. A tag line usually hints at what the film may be about, however, since we are not given one, it leads to more curiosity and ambiguity.
It can also be argued that not portraying the genre well with a tagline could mean that the audience loose interest since there isn't much for them to take away after looking at this poster, and therefore in my opinion I feel this poster isn't very successful.
Trailer
Mise - en - Scene
Mise-en-Scene is a vital concept that is used in media, Blue Jasmine has explored this concept well by implementing hidden meanings within the mise-en-scene.
Clothing and colours of clothing can suggest a lot.. for example the main character Jasmine is seen dressed in white throughout most of the trailer.
In this image Jasmine is wearing a white dress and is surrounded by rich gold colours from her house, cutlery and interior making her seem almost like a monarch, full of fame and riches, suggesting that she had it all

Genre Ideas
When choosing a genre to produce for our A2 work, we firstly
chose comedy; then thought about situation comedy because of the distinct
conventions meaning we felt that it would be quite easy to replicate and
follow, however; we also thought about being able to use our school setting as
an advantage and how we would do that and perhaps thought that a drama or a
comedy/drama would work better with the provided setting. As well as this we
considered that everyone has a different sense of humour and therefore the
comedy element would be difficult to put across in the scripting.
By choosing a drama we felt that we could have a wider range
of decisions in script writing as well as the most important thing about dramas
being the shots, acting and music which we felt would be achievable
